چکیده

INTRODUCTION Age related muscle loss, termed sarcopenia, has been linked to an increased risk of falls, disability, and mortality [1]. Researchers have used normalized fat free mass (FFMI) measurements, compared to a reference population to successfully identify older adult with sarcopenia [2]. The purpose of this study was to develop a predictive measurement tool to accurately estimate normalized fat free mass (FFMI) in healthy community dwelling older adult men and women. To ensure our prediction model would be useful by clinicians working with this population, ecologically and functional relevant measurements, including nutrition, clinical tests, balance, and gait variables were included.

Effect of a simple and adherent home exercise program on the physical function of community dwelling adults sixty years of age and older with pre-sarcopenia or sarcopenia

[Purpose] To evaluate the effect of a home exercise program on physical function in community dwelling elderly with pre-sarcopenia or sarcopenia. [Subjects and Methods] Fifty-two community-dwelling individuals, over 60 years and meeting the diagnostic criteria for pre-sarcopenia or sarcopenia, were randomly assigned to intervention group (n=34) and control group (n=18). The intervention group c...

Comparisons of predictive values of sarcopenia with different muscle mass indices in Korean rural older adults: a longitudinal analysis of the Aging Study of PyeongChang Rural Area

Purpose It is important to define lean muscle mass when diagnosing sarcopenia, but there is still controversy on the clinical implication of sarcopenia derived by height, weight, and body mass index (BMI) adjusted muscle mass indices. We aimed to evaluate the longitudinal clinical relevance of 3 sarcopenia definitions in the Korean population. Patients and methods We conducted comprehensive g...

Prevalence of sarcopenia in community-dwelling older people in the UK using the European Working Group on Sarcopenia in Older People (EWGSOP) definition: findings from the Hertfordshire Cohort Study (HCS)

INTRODUCTION sarcopenia is associated with adverse health outcomes. The aim of this study was to describe the prevalence of sarcopenia in community-dwelling older people in the UK using the European Working Group on Sarcopenia in Older People (EWGSOP) consensus definition. METHODS we applied the EWGSOP definition to 103 community-dwelling men participating in the Hertfordshire Sarcopenia Stud...

Fat Modulates the Relationship between Sarcopenia and Physical Function in Nonobese Older Adults

It is intuitive to think that sarcopenia should be associated with declines in physical function though recent evidence questions this assertion. This study investigated the relationship between absolute and relative sarcopenia, with physical performance in 202 nonobese (mean BMI = 26.6 kg/ht(2)) community-dwelling older (mean age = 73.8 ± 5.9 years) adults. While absolute sarcopenia (appendicu...

Exercise Intervention for Anti-Sarcopenia in Community-Dwelling Older People

Sarcopenia is an age-related health problem in general communities. Effective exercise programs against sarcopenia remain necessary for community-dwelling older people. In order to summarize the available knowledge on this subject, we collected English articles from a MEDLINE/Pubmed database examining the effects of exercise interventions on sarcopenia-related outcome measures in community-dwel...
